Lily Frost's Show Alive with Drama; A Fine Theatrical Performance

Lily returned to the Schoolhouse as a quartet and her set list could not have been more different than her last visit with Billie Holliday tunes. Her new album Veridian Torch consists of dramatic compositions that utilize a vast array of instruments that included Cello, Recordings, Violin, Keyboards, A child's toy and a Theremin (sp?). Her second set delivered numbers from her Cinemagique Album and played Enchantment, Secret, and may others; ending with Raise the Veil

Jose Miguel Contreras (guitar, keyboards, drums), Randy Lee (violin, bass and apple), Alex McMaster (cello...wonderful sound) rounded out the quartet and filled the room with incredibly creative and entrancing back music. The evening had the feel of a musical over which Lily applied her crystal clear voice and boat load upon boat load of alluring charm and piquance. Really really enjoyable.

The highlight for me was the Theremin and Forest Fire in the first set and Waltz of Malcontent in the second. That and perhaps Randy playing a toy apple with his foot.

One wouldn't know from the performance that the day started with travel problems that delayed there arrival and that Jose was playing with a back that could barely keep him upright.

Can't wait for the next visit.
